Miguel Adrover is back and the subject of a documentary.
Call it a Balance in the Unbalance takes a look at the Majorcan womenswear designer’s rags to riches story, Women’s Wear Daily reported. Adrover was a major part of the industry in getting his start after he opened Horn, an experimental store that sold designers like Alexander McQueen, in the East Village. He created his first line in 1999 and won the CFDA Perry Ellis award for Best New Designer in 2000.
But everything came to a halt when he lost his financial backing and decided to move back to Majorca, Spain in 2004. His first collection in eight years, titled Out of my Mind, was the last time the fashion industry saw its former golden boy when it showed in 2012. Perhaps a few of these pieces will be featured in the Costume Institutes’ ”Punk: Chaos to Couture” exhibit?
The documentary will be screened at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn April 17th. The film was originally released in Switzerland back in 2011, according to the Internet Movie Database, but this will be the first showing here in the United States. Adrover will be on hand after the screening to chat with Pratt Fashion Chair Jennifer Minniti about his career.
Will this be the start of a true comeback for the designer? We’ll just have to wait and see!
