Modern, Not Matronly Up-Dos

By  April 23, 2009

The latest version of the up-do is far from the super stiff, hairspray shellacked style that makes you think of bad proms and weddings. The hottest way to wear your hair up is loose and messy–the more undone the better! It’s super simple to do yourself since imperfection is key and can work even on those with shorter strands. Stylist Herve Bauge of Salon Eiji in New York City recommends curling hair from mid-length with a small curling iron and creating a center part. Then gather each side in the nape area, loosely twisting and pinning the hair haphazardly. Mia Fowler, Style Director at Gavert Atelier in Beverly Hills suggests trying this style on day old dirty hair for more texture and opting for finger combing instead of using a brush. To make this look even easier, pick up the Hair Jack, a tiny tin that contains 29 big and small hair pins and snag-free elastics perfect for creating your own version of this sexy ‘do.

The Hair Jack is available at for $12.95.
