Music Musings: Is VEVO Giving Gaga a Round of Applause?

By  October 29, 2013

In the months leading up to her anticipated ARTPOP return, we’ve witnessed Lady Gaga bare it all for the sake of Marina Abramović-endorsed art, script boo’s into her MTV Video Music Awards performance, and get immortalized by the one and only Jeff Koons. For her latest promotional act, Mother Monster could be uniting with VEVO for your streaming pleasure.

During a breakfast at VEVO’s Times Square headquarters last Thursday, executives introduced GLAM to its arsenal of original programming like Lyric LinesMusic is My Sport, and VEVO Certified, whose latest subject, Miley Cyrus, traded out twerking for tears. In the midst of the presentation, we were told that the platform’s impending collaboration is likely to conjure up “Applause.” Oh, the tease.

Though VEVO reps have remained mum on the project, it wouldn’t be the first time Gaga has grabbed headlines with the site. To date, she has had eight videos earn Certified status there with more than 100 million views each. More recently, she premiered the audio to “Venus” on the platform, which already been played 2.77 million times. With news of Gaga’s approaching ARTPOP rave, that could signal a bigger spectacle—perhaps pairing Mother Monster with a renowned director to film the affair for VEVO’s Amex Unstaged series.

“When you arrive at the art rave, it will be a huge, huge warehouse filled with rooms where you can view all this artwork that we’ve created together,” Gaga first shared with Z100′s Elvis Duran back in August. “Then, you can watch me live and have drinks and dance.” That’d make for a major VEVO moment, no?!

If our forecast proves true, Gaga would join Coldplay, Vampire Weekend, Usher, and Mary J. Blige, as part of the Unstaged set.

While we count down to ARTPOP‘s November 11 release—and confirmation of our VEVO suspicions—let Gaga’s #VEVOCertified playlist carry you over.
