Forget diamonds and pearls, next spring all a girl needs are floral and stripes. Spring was definitely in the air at Nanette Lepore. While other designers played it safe and went for muted tones, Lepore captured the essence of the season, playing with bright colors, floral prints, stripes, and ruffles (a seemingly big trend for spring).
Pattern mixing can be very taboo if it’s not done right. But that was not a problem for Lepore, who paired stripes with florals on the same garment with ease. Hemlines were adorned with ruffles, giving the items a flirty feel, which I could see myself spinning around in a circle to show it off – I’ve done it before.
If stripes and prints aren’t your thing, and they should be, but for arguments sake if they aren’t your thing, there were great solids too. A silk short and shirt set and a bright red ruffled dress, both dressed up with a wide belt, were instant favorites.
Of the shows I’ve seen, Nanette Lepore definitely stood out. It was young, fresh, and very stylish, and definitely worthy of a little twirl! – Melissa Lockhart
