Andy Warhol’s iconic works of soup cans, celebs, and silkscreens have become hallmarks in art and pop culture. Now 20 years after his death, he will be revived in the largest partnership with the Warhol Foundation to date as part of NARS Holiday 2012 collection. According to Women’s Wear Daily, the collaboration will be broken up into two offerings, one exclusive to Sephora and the other exclusive to department and specialty stores. Sephora’s selections will be based on Warhol’s Pop Art with pops of pigments in a slew of shadow palettes based on his Flowers series as well as an homage to Debbie Harry’s silkscreen print in a Cheek and Eye palette, featuring iconic quotes from the artist etched into the mirrors! Department and specialty stores will be embedded in the Silver Factory with sets and shades dedicated to his muses, Edie Sedgwick and Candy Darling.
François Nars was heavily influenced by the visionary after discovering his work from art books his parents had, so it made perfect sense for the creative forces to come together. “I have always surrounded myself with Andy’s work and even paid tribute to him in my past collections – Edie Eyeshadow, Chelsea Girls Lip Lacquer, etcetera,” he explained to the publication. “This just seemed like the right time to do [a bigger effort]. Even more than 20 years after his death, Andy continues to be one of the most influential figures in both contemporary art and pop culture. Andy said, ‘If everybody’s not a beauty, then nobody is.’”
The joint offerings are set to hit Sephora October 1st, and the cosmetic counters of department and specialty stores November 1st, and you can be sure we’ll be on the lookout!
