This week has resembled a tennis match between former Balenciaga creative director Nicolas Ghesquière and the new one, Alexander Wang. Ghesquière finally spoke out about his departure on Monday saying the fashion house ‘sucked him dry,’ Wang’s very first ad campaign was released on Tuesday, and today, Ghesquière is saying he wants to break all the fashion rules with his next project.
“Now is my time to question interseasonality–it’s always the opposite season somewhere in the world–and fashion’s need to be global while respecting the enviroment and local cultures and of course the usual six-month cycle for collections,” he told a Berlin-based culture magazine, 032C. “I may decide to fulfill that mission again, and I’ll enjoy it as I always have. Another part of me absolutely wants to break these rules.”
Interseasonality was a hot topic during New York Fashion Week in February in the American Express Sky Box where Steven Kolb, the CEO of the Council of Fashion Designers of America predicted seasonless trends as the way of the future. So, Ghesquière may be on to something!
