#NYFW Anna Sui

By  September 17, 2009

Fashion Week is a circus, and so is Anna Sui’s life right now.  Her Spring/Summer 2010 collection follows the wake of a very exciting collaboration with Target and her recent Mid-Life Achievement award. The show was a fusion of circus theatrics and a wild-child Sixties flair. There were a lot of glossy floral bohemian prints that were reminiscent of Sixties home furnishings and tablecloths. With this same retro vibe, Anna created some beautiful tailored suits that had us all wanting to re-vamp our work wardrobe to match her vision. We caught up with Anna backstage and she confirmed that this season’s collection was inspired by the “circus scenes in ‘Doctor Doolittle.” Ipso facto, there was a funky pink and black tent backdrop as the models walked the runway to the mashed up music of some timeless Sixties anthems, sporting tall band hats and appliquéd bullfighting capes. With all the commotion going on in her life, Anna really channeled and created a collection that only a ringleader is capable of.   -Alyssa Bernstein
