#NYFW Backstage: Christian Siriano

By  September 13, 2009

We chatted backstage with Makeup Artist Polly Osmond and Hairstylist Antoinette Beenders about their inspiration for Christian Siriano SS 2010. This is what they had to say:

Christian Siriano Beauty

Glam: What look are you trying to achieve today?

Polly: A modern beach look with a twist. So it’s not too classic, not too pretty.

Glam: Since you’re creating a glowing face with shine on the cheeks, what is your advice to women who want to do this at home but have problems with oily skin?

Polly: I would avoid the face gloss and just use a shimmer powder rather than a base gloss.

Glam: Can you tell us one trend you want to see go away and one trend you want to make a comeback?

Polly: It would be nice to see an end to the black gothic lipstick. And lip gloss on the lips. I don’t think we’ve seen gloss for a while.

If you want to be a beach goddess for a day (Who doesnt?), follow the list below using Victoria’s Secret Beauty products and you’ll be wearing puka shells and coconuts in no time. Ok, maybe we won’t go that far.

Nails: Clean. Fresh. No polish.

Face: Four foundations were used - light 40, medium 10, 20 and 30.

Cheek:  Apply Champagne (nude) eyeshadow. Layer the Glowing Bronzer on top of that. Finish the cheek with True Lip Lacquer for shine.

Lips: True Lip Lacquer only.

Eye shadows- Champagne (nude) on browbone. Provacateur, Pose on lid.
Eye liner- Bright (white) for eyebrows and to line under the eye.
Masacara- High Def and lots of it!

Glam: Where did you draw your creativity from?

Antoinette: The prints in his clothes are based on waves so we wanted a wave, but I wanted to do it in a more modern way. We’re doing it sleek with a bit of a wave in the back.

Glam: For the everyday woman, is this easy to recreate?

Antoinette: Um, yeah if you were a little handy with a curling iron.

Glam: What are the steps to copy this?

Antoinette: It’s really a two part ponytail. One on the nape of the neck, one on the top. Make a couple large curls in the top ponytail, brush out, and comb it twice. Push the hair up a little and use bobby pins to secure it.

Glam: What products are you using?

Antoinette: Aveda Air Control

Glam: What trends are you seeing for SS?

Antoinette: Texture, a bit more mucked up hair. Not so neat. Off the face.

Glam: Long or short for spring?

Antoinette: Both!
