#NYFW Betsey Johnson Fall 2011

By  February 14, 2011

“Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” played as the lights dimmed during the Betsey Johnson Fall 2011 show, and we were already sold. Leave it to the queen of cartwheels to put on a joyful production of mammoth proportions on Valentine’s Day. The affair was divided into two segments: “He Loves Me” and “He Loves Me Not.”  Loves Me Not was a gothic ode to love, featuring models dressed in leopard and rose prints, all donning black bobs. There was, of course, the requisite tulle and full, flouncey skirts. A head-to-toe royal purple number closed out Loves Me Not, and then it was on to the sunny and care-free Loves Me portion of the show. “Real models,” meaning mere mortals and members of Johnson’s staff, walked the runway in more affordable offerings. Both guys and girls wore blonde Betsey wigs until finally the real Betsey appeared on the runway dancing and cartwheeling, agile as ever. With smiles plastered on our faces, we left the show feeling fully charged and a little bit giddy.
