#NYFW: Covergirl from Day to Night at Polyvore Live

By  February 16, 2012

Imagine a world where models looked like you, an affordable makeup brand ruled the runway, and your wardrobe was handpicked from a select group of emerging designers. Well, it exists. It’s Polyvore Live! Polyvore’s self-proclaimed “celebration of the future of fashion and beauty” united 23 fresh-faced fashion-blogging femmes, four promising Fashion Institute of Technology alumni, and COVERGIRL for a fashion week mashup like none other.

Vengsarkar Budhu, Lauren Bagliore, Dana-Maxx Pomerantz, and Sergio Guadarrama presented 10 looks each at NYC’s La Venue on Monday. Budhu, the man behind Gavaskar, dealt in a world of crimson and creme with silk and satin blazing a floral trail. Bagliore’s eponymous clothing line featured loose and easy draping and plenty of jersey for the girl who likes to stay down to earth while dressing up. Pomerantz’s Dana-Maxx collection included fun color-blocking and funky cutouts (perhaps a bit of her time at Betsey Johnson rubbed off), while Guadarrama presented exquisite beading and couture creations for his line, Celestino. Bloggers-turned-models (for the evening, at least), included Aimee Song, Nadia Sarwar, and Helena Glazer, who strutted in ornate evening gowns, punchy prints, color-blocked dresses, and red-carpet ready designs.

While the shows looks haven’t hit your favorite boutique and blogger extraordinaire isn’t on your list of attributes, you can reproduce Polyvore Live’s easy, breezy makeup looks from COVERGIRL right now. Beau Nelson — the makeup master who’s made everyone from Zoe Kravitz to Jessica Chastain look flawless — was in charge of producing the evening’s beauty looks with the everyday woman in mind. “I love the fact that we had fashion bloggers walking in this show,” Nelson said. “So I wanted the looks I created to be simple and easy enough for any woman to achieve on her own.”

For day, Nelson used COVERGIRL’s TruBlend Liquid Makeup for a clean base before using Intense ShadowBlast in Beige Blaze as a highlight. He used the same shade on their eyelids then swept their lashes with LashBlast 24HR Mascara. To create strong, defined brows, Nelson chose the Brow & Eyemakers Pencil and clear mascara to mold them into place. Since the eyes were so simple, he recommended a bold mouth; he lined the models’ lips using LipPerfection Lipliner, then mixed LipPerfection Lipcolor in Hot and Spellbound with Blast Flipstick Lipcolor in Stunner for an orange-red pop.

To switch up the look for night, Nelson chose COVERGIRL’s Clean Liquid Makeup for light coverage and contoured their cheeks with Cheekers Blush in Natural Rose. For a more dramatic effect, he created a smokey eye using Liquiline Blast Eyeliner in Brown Blaze and Intense ShadowBlast in Brown Bling on the lid. Again, he used LashBlast 24HR Mascara to create stand-out lashes, and finished the look with a nude LipPerfection Lipcolor in Sultry.
