#NYFW: Fierce & Fabulous at Betsey Johnson Spring 2013

By  September 12, 2012

Talk about a birthday bash! Betsey Johnson pulled out all of the stops to make her comeback and celebrate her 70th birthday. With a retrospective of her work since the ‘60s, her Spring 2013 collection, and a magnificent performance by the one and only Cyndi Lauper, her ‘80s prom-themed party was one of the hottest tickets! For the new season, she highlighted vacations, animals, and more with flirty silhouettes (some quite cheeky!), a wild color palette, and a slew of her signature poofy dresses.

The models strutted the stage emulating the designer herself top to bottom as a blend of Betsey, a classic pinup, and a comic book super hero. To transform their tresses, Aveda’s Jon Ryman first gave their locks a firm grip with the brand’s Control Force Hair Spray before sectioning the hair and crimping the entire head with a very hot crimper to exaggerate the 80s hairdo. He then tousled the strands to break up the sections and create texture for a more modern feel.

For the eye-popping makeup, Maybelline New York’s Gato kept the skin fresh with a dose of Dream Fresh BB Cream and a touch of Dream Bouncy Blush on the cheeks with a small crystal serving as a faux Monroe piercing. He then used Master Precise Eyeliner to create fierce cat-eyes and bold brows. A pop of yellow pigment was placed in the middle of the lid with a blend of Color Tattoo in Too Cool and Asphalt applied to the inner and outer corners of the eye with a few coats of Falsies Flared Mascara. The pinup pout was crafted with the Color Sensational Lipcolor in Very Cherry with red glitter pressed in and topped off with a slick of gloss. To match the tips to the lips, Kiss’ Broadway Nails painted their new medium length ImPRESS Press-On Manicure in Color Me with two coats of Ruby Kisses nail polish. With colors and style like this, every girl can show off her sassy side this spring!
