#NYFW Get the Look: Preen Fall 2012

By  February 14, 2012

Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi brought modern romance to the runway for Preen’s Fall 2012 collection. Floral and brushstroke prints were paired with flat matte textures in streamlined, feminine silhouettes. The designers worked with Aveda’s Paul Hanlon and Revlon’s Gucci Westman to create a carefree, fashionista-on-the-run look to compliment the collection.

“I’m calling it the ‘wind-swept top knot,’” Hanlon said. “[The designers] wanted something very effortless. The idea is almost like she’s been outside, and the wind has created this matte, dry texture.”

He started with Aveda’s Phomolient Styling Foam and blew the hair dry to give it a drier, stiffer texture. He then sectioned the hair in half from top to bottom before literally tying the sections into a knot! Clear plastic combs were inserted towards the front to pull back, and he added the Brilliant Anti-Humectant Pomade for some shine at the front before pulling some of the ends near the knot out for a more wind-swept look. Lastly, he sealed the style with a bit of Air Control Hairspray.

Inspired by the designer’s muse, Beatrix Potter, Westman created a sporty and modern English look to compliment the clothes. “I wanted to play off the British feel of the collection and highlight the great prints,” she said. “I used neutral colors on the eyes and created a flushed lip to give the girls an outdoorsy yet modern look.”

She started with leaving the skin mostly bare but contoured using Revlon’s ColorStay Dual Ended Shadow Stick in Volcanic’s white side as a highlighter on the nose and cheek, which will be available in May. She then added depth with the Illuminance Crème Shadow in Not Just Nudes and gave the girls a light blush of color with the PhotoReady Cream Blush in Flushed, which will be available in May. The eyes were given the VIP treatment thanks to Gucci Westman’s Limited Edition Shadow Palette that will be available in October. Bold brows are still going strong thanks to the two darkest shades in the ColorStay 16Hour Eyeshadow Quad in Attitude. The eyes were lined with the Grow Luscious Lash Liner in Brown and were brought into the light with the Limited Edition Highlighting Stick in Golden, which will be available in May. Lush lashes were topped off with a swipe of the PhotoReady 3D Volume Mascara in Black. The fingertips were treated to a manicure using the ColorStay Longwear Nail Enamel in Bare Bones. She sealed the look with light pink kisses that were created with the Super Lustrous Lipstick in Mink and topped with the Just Kissable in Crush and Adore that will be available in May. Every girl will transform into Preen’s sporty English roses once the chillier weather arrives!
