#NYFW Jason Wu Fall 2011
By Nola Weinstein
February 11, 2011
For Fall 2011, Jason Wu continues to romance and enchant with his incredible confections. Inspired by Robert Polidori’s photos of Versailles’ restoration process taken over a 25-year period, Wu masterfully played off the juxtaposition of the landmark’s rough understructure and the sheer opulence of the decor. This season a Byzantine influence prevailed with gilded embroidery and intricate jeweled appliques; hair was even styled with 24kt gold leaf. Victorian lace pieces make for an elegantly feminine aesthetic. Wu also presented several of his signature feathered frocks which floated down the runway. Though the designer rarely uses black, Karlie Kloss looked especially regal in a noir-draped gown. And Wu for his part remains the king of his craft!
