#NYFW Jason Wu’s Spring 2012 Collection
By Nola Weinstein
September 10, 2011
For his Spring 2012 collection, Jason Wu fused his admiration for haute couture with upbeat pop art influences. His palette, which was dominated by gray, black, shocking pink, pop yellow, and electric blue, made a unique graphic statement. Though looks were elegant and ethereal, they also took a sportier tone this season with windbreakers and trench coats getting glamorous play alongside evening gowns and flowy skirts. Standouts included a striking dress, which combined an ivory beaded ribbed bodice with a shocking pink silk gazar cascade petal bottom and a pop yellow silk gazar floating dress. Volume and proportion played an integral role this season; Wu used flared bottoms, peplum tops and sculpted skirts for intriguing shapes. Light, yet substantial, this collection had us floating with glee.
