#NYFW Spring 2013: Rachel Comey Ready to Wear

Rachel Comey captured the audience once again at her Spring 2013 show, sending a line of wearable and versatile resort wear, from bathing suits to evening dresses, down the runway. Although still a relatively new designer, Comey’s skill was unquestionable as she flawlessly harmonized seemingly opposing themes: organic and structured, laid back comfort and sophisticated cuts, vintage inspired and a modern edge. However, the assumed dichotomy between the line’s motifs were nowhere to be seen in Comey’s recreation of classic silhouettes through sculpted angles and surprise geometric cutouts. Steering clear of harsh lines and over execution, each piece draped to flatter the female body, proving in line with the softness and femininity of Comey’s overall vision. With a scattering of neons, rich royal hues and pops of metallic, the line was kept especially fresh, though a reoccurring camouflage flowered print borderlined 60s psychedelic, making sure to remind audiences of the line’s influences from the past.
