#NYFW: Tadashi Shoji Spring 2013

By  September 07, 2012

“East meets West” was Tadashi Shoji’s inspiration for his eponymous line’s Spring 2013 collection. The Japanese designer sought to create looks that displayed “a journey along a modern silk road” for our “virtual traveler.” His detailed designs were intricate and delicate, the result of using lace, silk, and chiffon to create a harmonious blend. The simple, branch and floral backdrop in soft shades of blue added to the nomadic tones, and the sartorial story continued with tunes that offered an uplifting, free-spirited, and powerful atmosphere. On trend with the hues of the coming spring and summer season, Shoji used warm, “desert bloom” shades: rose dust and rusty neutrals balanced by cooler colors like jade, china blue, and pale iris. The result: a magical, earthy odyssey for the modern-day peasant girl.

Angela Simmons (daughter of RUN DMC rapper Rev Run), was seated front row next to style maven June Ambrose. Clad in a beautiful, sequined jacket with blue, green, and bronze details atop a black dress and heels, she said she was eager to see what Shoji had in store for spring. For now, Simmons let us know what her must-have is for fall. “A jacket — a really nice jacket, because you can wear that with anything,” she quipped.
