#NYFW Tibi Fall 2011

The ‘90s are having a moment, and Amy Smilovic of Tibi championed the decade in her latest collection, delivering frocks and separates that were clean, fresh and fiercely feminine. While gently alluding to the cool, relaxed vibe of the ‘90s, Smilovic never hit us over the head with the reference. Post-show, we caught up with the designer backstage as she celebrated with her brood.

What was inspiring you?
The collection is all about ‘90s minimalism and great daywear pieces, playing on the classics. We’re doing extravagant nighttime looks; it’s about looking cool.

What got you thinking about the 1990s?
With the latest trends being short and mini, it makes you crave something more sophisticated and then you start to crave clean, streamlined silhouettes and then it all snowballs from there.

Do you have a favorite movie from the decade?
Definitely “Pulp Fiction.” It’s such a quintessential ‘90s film.

And how do your children enjoy the show?
They’re really just concerned with riding home in a limo and getting to drink Diet Coke. This is the one time I allow them to have soda.
