Yigal Azrouel

Needle, thread, and scalpel? You heard right. Yigal kicked it up a notch this season with an edgier hard-hitting collection in muted earth tones against the occasional pop of pistachio or flame. Scalpel embroidery, lacerated shapes, and graphic cutouts effortlessly catapulted relaxed urban daywear into sexy transitional night pieces. Draped designs and leather moto jackets, which the designer is known for, were not absent but visibly toned down to make room for a more streamlined silhouette like his short body-con cocktail dresses. (Other key themes to keep in mind at Yigal are asymmetrical necklines and high-waisted shorts or trousers; two trends that are continuing from seasons’ past.) With each collection this talented designer leans toward a tougher, more rock-based aesthetic that seems to suit him well. What do you think of his new look? ~ Maria Denardo
