Olivia Palermo Is a Flower Lady, and Will Not Be Wearing Birkenstocks

Olivia Palermo is a true tastemaker, and she insists that she comes by it honestly. Though we’re always citing her as fashion inspiration and wishing we had a fraction of her collection of accessories, Palermo is an all-around lifestyle guru. And after sitting down with her on a plush couch surrounded by Olivia Palermo-designed wall prints and throw pillows, we’re definitely convinced. “Interior design is something I’ve always been interested in,” she admitted at Shutterfly by Design’s room exhibition, which she co-curated and hosted on Wednesday evening. When designing a room, she likes “keeping everything semi-neutral, playing off the patterns, similar to what I do [with] clothes.”

When it comes to her clothes, Palermo’s closet is certainly one we’d like to raid—though she admits that she’s not really one to obey fashion trends. As for the revival of Birkenstocks and other unutterable ’90s trends that are making their way back into our wardrobes, Palermo will abstain. “OliviaPalermo.com will not be supporting [those] fad[s],” she said in a firm tone, but with a smirk. “There are other trends out there that I think are more of my aesthetic…and trends come and go.” One trend (that’s been around for a while and isn’t going anywhere anytime soon) she does fully support is florals—and perhaps that stems (no pun intended) from her love of actual flowers. “My second hobby is flower design, funny enough,” she revealed. And, as most fashion girls would agree, pink peonies are at top of mind for this season. Truly, a girl after our own hearts.

UPDATE: Page Six reports that Palermo and fiancé Johannes Huebl have secretly wed at New York’s City Hall this past Saturday. However, a quick call to the Clerk’s Office confirmed that the Marriage Bureau is, in fact, not open on the weekends. The pair was spotted there on a Tuesday, presumably getting their license. Palermo declined to talk about her wedding when we spoke with her at this event.
