“I am grateful for Olivier’s extraordinary contribution to Theory over the past three and a half years, and I am particularly excited to see what he does next,” Andrew Rosen, Theory’s CEO told Women’s Wear Daily. “While he has already accomplished so much, I am confident in the power of his artistic skill and believe his future will be very bright.”
Theyskens joined Rosen and Elie Tahari’s brand in 2010 to design a capsule collection under the Theyskens’ Theory label. Prior to Theory, he was the creative director at Nina Ricci and Rochas.
He showed his first wares for the brand in 2011 as a capsule collection. Then, a noticeable change happened last February when Theyskens showed a collection for Theory, instead of Theyskens’ Theory, which was discontinued.
New York Times fashion director, Vanessa Friedman, speculates that Theysken’s departure could be a move on Rosen’s part, away from “the recent conventional wisdom that says contemporary or accessible brands need the buzz of a “face” and a runway to make themselves heard.”
As for Theyskens, he said, “It has been an amazing opportunity to work with Andrew and to benefit from his knowledge in this dynamic segment of fashion. I will always cherish our friendship.”
