Talk about a shoegasm! The Fashion Institute of Technology is shifting its focus to footwear for a new exhibition. “Shoe Obsession” examines the growing popularity of extravagant shoes, making them the “it” accessory over handbags. Featuring approximately 150 contemporary styles with a focus on the extreme and imaginative looks that brought stylish steppers to the forefront. Highlights include the Manolo Blahnik D’Orsays that were the focus of an episode of Sex and the City, a spiky set of Christian Louboutin’s, a slithery pair of Nicholas Kirkwood’s, a limited edition feather-accented pump from Roger Vivier’s artistic director Bruno Frisoni, a pair of 18-inch Lady Point shoes by Noritaka Tatehana that Lady Gaga sported in her “Marry the Night” music video, and much, much more! Additional designers include Alexandre Birman, Alessandra Lanvin, Charlotte Olympia Dellal, and others! Though you can’t take the footwear home with you, a book is set to accompany the exhibit with proceeds benefitting the school.
“Shoe Obsession” runs from February 8 to April 13, 2013 and admission is free and open to the public. For more information, please visit FITNYC.edu.
