Regardless of your relationship status, there’s always a chance for something sweet come February 14. Whether you’re stepping out with your honey or hanging with your close friends, there’s no reason not to spice up your look for the heart-filled holiday. We found three ways to rock a red lip—we used CoverGirl LipPerfection Lipcolor in Flame and LipPerfection Lipliner in Passion—that are appropriate for whatever type of romantic rendezvous you have in store.

Sweet - Everyone likes a flawless natural face, so if you’re planning on your first blind date or a night in with the gang, you don’t have to get all dolled up. After using any complexion makeup, you should look like you “woke up like this”—dot the lipstick on your lips, and blend it for a sheer wash of color. You can also add a few dabs to your cheeks to create a natural flush similar to a cheek stain.

Classic - The red lip is a timeless look that taps into our retro flair. Get ready to wing it as you apply lip liner and two coats of lipstick, always blotting in between for a long-lasting look, and let your eyes take flight with winged eyeliner. To ensure ease, dot the liquid liner along your top lash line before connecting the dots to complete the wing. If you’re still having trouble, some well-placed tape will keep your lines clean.

Glam - For those who aren’t afraid to go all out, don’t be shy to pair your rocking red lip with a smoldering smoky eye. After your lip look is prepped, take a dark shadow and pat the color on the lid from the lash line to the crease. Use a fluffy shadow brush to blend the color further into the crease, becoming gentler as you move up toward the brows for a diffused look. Take the shadow from the lid and buff it down to the lower lash line for added rocker edge.

Happy Valentine’s Day!
