Even though our wardrobes are stocked with darks and neutrals for fall, our Fashion Week schedules have us thinking spring! Pantone has released the top colors for Spring 2014, and they make up a lovely palette that’s packed with vivid colors and softer shades. While Dazzling Blue takes the lead for women, Violet Tulip, and Radiant Orchid follow close behind. The list continues with Celosia Orange, Freesia, Cayenne, Placid Blue, Paloma, Sand, and Hemlock. The men’s list is topped by cooler blue tones like Placid Blue, Paloma (an earthy gray), and Dazzling Blue.

“What’s interesting is we’re seeing exciting and fashionable colors as well as more neutral ones…The world still needs the stability of soft neutrals but we’re not just talking about gray, beige and taupe,” Leatrice Eiseman, Pantone Color Institute’s executive director, told Women’s Wear Daily.

It seems that the world is learning that “neutral” doesn’t necessarily need to be a shade of black, brown or white. New neutrals – soft blues, purples and greens – are making their debut this season, alongside more vibrant tones. Achieving a fashionable and colorful look is all about balancing fun and risk with practicality. So as Fashion Week kicks off, get set to see how your favorite designers incorporate Pantone’s top spring hues into their runway looks.
