I took a little “staycation” this holiday season aka stayed at home and enjoyed a good old-fashioned Netflix binge.  The show Ugly Betty was my drug of choice. Sure I’ve watched the entire series before but that was years ago. I wanted to go in with a fresh pair of eyes so I could really enjoy the fashion.

The character Wilhelmina Slater is my muse for this latest installment of Personal Style 101.  Even though she was the She-Devil from hell on the show, her style was on point. Every outfit exuded power and sophistication.

What You’ll Need:

  • Modern suit
  • Shift dress
  • High heels
  • Statement necklace
  • Killer bag

sophisticated style

Dress // Necklace // Shoes // Bag // Perfume // Lipstick

 How to Get the Look:

Go monochromatic

Wearing a single color from head-to-toe gives the look of a suit, which is uber professional and sophisticated. Plus, it elongates the body making you look taller and like a total boss.

Statement accessories are a must

Save the stacks of bracelets and layered rings for the weekend. A powerful and sophisticated look calls for a one attention getting piece – preferably a killer necklace.

Keep those heels high

Towering over people gives you power, sorry it just does. Wear those heels and wear them high. A great pair of pumps will do the trick – nothing strappy or overly adorned please.

Impeccable grooming is key

Hair, makeup, and nails must be in check at all times if you want to pull of that whole powerful/ sophisticated woman bit. This doesn’t have to be a time consuming chore either. A clear topcoat and a nail file can do wonders in a matter of minutes.
