Personal Style 101: The Minimalist

Having great style doesn’t always mean you have to embrace bold colors or striking patterns. Sometimes simple is better.

Calvin Klein, Vera Wang, and Celine are all masters on the minimalist aesthetic. I’m talking muted monochromatic palettes, clean silhouettes, and subtle details. This look is riddled with sophistication and has class for days.

Modern day icons that embrace this look including Gwyneth Paltrow, Cate Blanchett, and Tilda Swinton. Also feel free to take your hot tub time machine back to 1995, that’s when Calvin Klein really got this minimalist party started!

What You’ll Need:

  • A sleek pair of trousers
  • Structured handbag
  • A great coat
  • Killer shoes
  • Simple shift dress

How to Get the Look:

Go Neutral

Bold colors are not welcome when it comes to the minimalist look. Opt for white, cream, black, gray, and light browns instead.

Keep it Clean

Clean lines, simple shapes, and almost unnoticeable details are the name of the game here. If you are looking for a little excitement try pleats and unique fabric treatments in place of patterns, studded, and other flashy details.

Less is More

This is not the time to pile on the accessories. Wear one or two accessories and make them count. A stunning gold belt, an oversized pearl ring, or a great pair of sunglasses will say more than an armful of bracelets ever will.
