Revlon Illuminance Creme Eye Shadow

Revlon Illuminance Creme Shadow comes in quads of four creme shadows. I tried the quad Not Just Nudes, which turned out to be a fairly nice set of nude creme shades.

The shadow itself is quite sheer, and only fairly buildable. If I had a complaint, I guess that would be it–I would rather see a bit more color payoff. But the sheerness still worked for me and the shadows blended very well because of it.

I did not experience issues with creasing, although I have seen other state that they had issues with that when using the Illuminance shadows. It appears that creasing is more problematic in those with oily skin, and I don’t have particularly oily lids, so that may be why I had no issues with it.

The shadow lasted most of the day for me. It did not stick around as long as my favorite, MAC paint pots (read review), but it did a decent job. Mostly I just love the shades, which are swatched below:

Channel: Beauty Fashion

MAC Cosmetics have set up their senior artists on twitter for micro blogging during New York fashion week and fashion weeks in other cities. If you look down the right sidebar a bit (look below the blogroll), you will see that I have added a widget that will run a feed of their tweets. Note that not all will be twittering from every city, so you might see some blanks. Also there is the Beauty Blog Network fashion week widget, which will run a feed of headlines from network members pertaining to fashion week throughout the Month of September.

Also, if you would like to follow Beauty and Fashion Tech on twitter, I run headline feed updates through the account Carleenp.

Scenes From September: It is Still Summer and Im Not Going to New York Fashion Week
By: BeautyandFashionTech    3 days 5 hours 55 minutes ago
Channel: Beauty Fashion

Welcome to September, the time of year when it is suddenly OK to wear fall colors and not so OK to be sporting those neon pink summer nails. It is the month where the season has not officially changed, but posts abound about fall trends. To confuse the matter, it is also a month of coverage about what spring will bring, thanks to the presence of fashion week in New York City beginning this week and in other cities later this month.

So with that in mind what do I plan to cover this week and next? Well, I have a few pink summer nail features planned, a reader giveaway, and some miscellaneous product reviews. Yes, I will cover the fall trends sometime this month, and yes, I will keep a bit of an eye on fashion week news, but mostly I am avoiding both until I reach the end of my denial that summer is officially over in the fashion world. So instead of writing about new trends, I am avoiding the fall trend set by the multitude of websites and blogs that will be covering nothing else for the next few weeks. I’m sure that they will do it quite well and I see no real need to duplicate to the process. Instead, I will read the blogs of my friends who are covering the spectacle that is New York fashion week and perhaps point out a few of the best posts. Meanwhile, I will enjoy my period of extended summer in September.

You see, I am not going to New York Fashion Week, and I am OK with that, perhaps even rather glad of it. Earlier this year, I made conflicting travel plans for something much more amazing to me–a vacation. Initially I regretted that I would miss the opportunity to go to New York, but as time went on, I was able to ponder just what it was that I was missing. There would be no expensive plane fare and no bunking up with several strangers to save a few bucks on an outrageously priced hotel room. I would not get the pleasure of waiting for invitations to shows that might never come, or juggling the ones that came scheduled at the same time. There would be no agony over what to wear or how to behave, and I would not be faced with being treated as a second class citizen because I am a blogger. The more I considered it, the less I cared that I was not going to be there. I don’t even cover fashion extensively–I write about makeup, and it is mostly product reviews at that. Thus, on the whole, the expense of New York fashion week is a bit difficult to defend as a business expense. I might visit the nearby Milwaukee fashion week in October instead.

For those of you dying for some fashion week coverage, the Beauty Blog Network Website is running a widget with a feed of its member’s fashion week headlines. I have also included the widget on Beauty and Fashion Tech.

For a few different angles on fashion week, the following are also particularly good reads:

* From the New York Observer: oh Lowly Blogger? Your Seat’s in the Back. Feel gossipy? Take a look at Jossip’s different take on the matter: Fashion Week vs. The Blogs: Kelly Cutrone Plays Hardball. Yes, Fashion Week definitely has its drama.

* From Slate comes the answers to your burning questions that you were afraid to ask. Check out The Fashion Week FAQ and The Fashion Week FAQ Part II. Slate is full of interesting Fashion Week commentary. For more, simply run a search of the term there.

Finally, lest I appear overly cynical about New York fashion week, I must say that I will truly miss the opportunity to meet some wonderful people who I have connected with online through networks such as Splendicity, The Beauty Blog Network, Total Beauty, and Glam Media–all of whom will be providing online coverage of the events quicker and generally more in depth than the print sources–even if the writers get sent to the back row. I also will miss seeing colleagues whom I have met before. But in the end I am happy knowing that I will enjoy reading their coverage of the events while I search out oysters in Boston and lobster in Maine a week later. Keep an eye out for me, I’ll be the one still wearing summer pink nails.

CoverGirl Eye Enhancers Shadow and Tropical Fusion Look
By: BeautyandFashionTech    4 days 16 hours 55 minutes ago

300

CoverGirl has some wonderful new Eye Enhancer shadow shades out and some great looks can be created with them. I watched a webinar presented by CoverGirl and will show one of the looks that be created from the Tropical Fusion CoverGirl Eye Enhancers Set (pictured).

Below are swatches from the quad. The second color from the right is a mix of the turquoise and yellow shades in the quad, which makes a pretty light green as used in the look below.

CoverGirl cover girl makeup eyeshadow swatch

First off though, a bit about the shadow: The CoverGirl shadows are pretty good in terms of pigment. These have a nice color payoff and staying power that you normally wont see in such an affordable shadow. When I swatched these, it took a bit of work to wash them off! So they are a really nice value. They also have some wonderful bright shades, so if you arent afraid of some color, you will find great choices at a bargain price.

One of the fun looks that can be made with the Tropical Fusion is called Caribbean Eyes.

look

To create this look, apply the turquoise shade to the lid. The CoverGirl shadows build well, so you can make this rather sheer or you can build up the crease more, as you desire.

Now, add the yellow shade over the top of the of the turquoise. I like to use more of it in the center of my lid than the sides for a pop of color there. Blended well, this will give a pretty light Caribbean green look that is really rather luminousmore so than the swatch picture shows.

The eye is lined with the royal blue shade. Work it in with a press brush and then smudge it out some. You can wet the shadow for a finer line or more intense look.

The peach shade in the quad can be used as a blush, especially on darker skin. It is not really as orange as it appears in the quad, but it does have quite a bit of pigment–a bit too much to use as blush on my fair skin, but it would be fine on medium to dark shades of skin.

The lips were done in CoverGirl Amazemint Happy Houricon, which looks blue in the tube but is actually clear, with a nice cool tone and taste. For more on the CoverGirl Amazemint glosses, which contain Crest peppermint oils, see my review on Girl Gloss.

CoverGirl cosmetics can be purchased at virtually all drugstores and big box retailers.
