To the Closet? Or Leave it on The Rack?

Michelle Monaghan star of Made of Honor at the premier in a bold shaped Dolce & Gabbana dress with Jimmy Choo heels, a Judith Leiber clutch and an Erickson Beamon necklace.

Personally I love Dolce & Gabbanas collection this year. The floral the strong silhouettes all make me drool. But then again I am a twisted girl. Having seen so many damn clothes and having about 40 jammed packed racks of dresses at my disposal (errr through my business)
I have a warped perception of what is normal and what is not. I tend to admire strong bold lines, color and above all else a girl who makes choices that maybe a "normal" girl who goes to an office every day (been there done that) might choose.
I guess I like things that live up to my fantasy life where I flit about in couture all day.

Ok so once in a while I might sit around in a 1970s caftan for no apparent reason sipping champagne but that is me and admittedly I do have a weakness for 1970s maxi dresses and champagne, and I do drink too much so I have an excuse or at least I use this a my excuse, but I am digressing here.

What do you think about this outfit? Is it a straight to the closet or a leave it on the rack

Sex & Aunt Mame

Instyle is featuring the wardrobe of the Sex & The City Movie and one post shows this ensemble worn by Kim catrall and is accompanied by this blurb:

Samantha (Kim Cattrall) goes bi-coastal, that is and makes a splashy statement in a yellow Versace dress, Jimmy Choo sandals and Nancy Gonzalez handbag, which matches her pup's leash and collar, custom-made for the movie. "I wanted her to be such a glamour girl in L.A.," says Cattrall. "I wanted her to be like the stars from the '30s and '40s that I think Samantha pays homage to. She has Mae West tendenciesshe is an Auntie Mame."

I had a bit of a giggle at that and wonder if Kim is still a bit pissed that she has been made out to be the bad guy for the delay in making the movie or if she has actually seen the movie in a while casue it is a bit of a backwards diss on herself - at least from a pure beauty point of view

Now if you do not know who Aunt Mame was here is a synopsis

Auntie Mame began as a novel by Patrick Dennis (aka Ed Fitzgerald), then was adapted into a long-running Broadway play by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee. This 1958 film version permits Rosalind Russell to recreate her stage role as Mame Dennis, the flamboyant, devil-may-care aunt of young, impressionable Patrick Dennis. Left in Mame's care when his millionaire father drops dead, young Patrick (Jan Handzlik) is quickly indoctrinated into his aunt's philosophy that "Life is a banquet--and some poor suckers are starving to death." Social-climbing executor Dwight Babcock (Fred Clark) does his best to raise Patrick as a stuffy American aristocrat, but Mame battles Babcock to allow the boy to be as free-spirited as she is. In 1974, Auntie Mame was remade as the filmmusical Mame with Lucille Ball.

Its a great movie - don't get me wrong and the character is pretty flamboyant but I don't think comparing someone to Mae west and then in the same breathe to Aunt Mame can be deemed as the highest of praise - even if you are saying it about yourself

case in point, Mae West in all her bombshell glory

And some stills of the Auntie Mame character

Of course I am reserving judgment till I see the movie - maybe Kim is right

The Shrimpton Couture Dress of The Day

Wendy B suggested I highlight some dresses from the site and I think I will. I am calling these posts the Dress of the Day but don't confuse it with Erin's fabulous blog or expect me to actually post a dress every day - its TODAY'S dress of the day and that is as good as it gets for now.

I just finished updating this fabulous tiered lace dress by Junior Vogue Originals.

This dress is begging for a dramatic girl!
Its not that the cut is complicated or that it is a crazy design, it is just that those tiers of lace combined with that hot pink silk sash create such drama when on you have to be able to handle the stares! I love, love, love this dress and it is so much more dramatic in person I can't even begin to tell you!

Dresses like this make me happy to be doing what I do. I can just imagine some fabulous girl wearing this and being the belle of the ball. Click here to get more info if you love this dress too!

I would pair this with Alexander McQueen shoes - just because the soles are hot pink (Betsy Johnson shoes have pink soles too). Can you just imagine walking away from someone flashing pink soles that match the sash of this dress?

Visit Shrimpton Couture to see tons more great dresses - All the day dress section is now updated and the evening dress section is done now as well.
