June Ambrose on Self Expression’s Power

By  August 06, 2013

When it comes to self-expression, June Ambrose is a master. Her uniquely inspired aesthetic has made her the go-to stylist for power players and industry luminaries like Jay-Z, Sean “Diddy” Combs, Missy Elliot, Zoe Saldana, and Mariah Carey. Come Fashion Week, she is a front-row powerhouse. Few have the ability to capture the attention of a room quite look her. Ambrose shared with us her fall trend predictions, expensive habits, and thoughts on Kim and Kanye’s baby.

Q:

What trends are you looking forward to wearing this fall?

A:

Color and metallics. I'm so excited – my shoe collection has a lot of that kind of drama. I'm really excited about the fact that you see attention to detail again. Fur – I shouldn't say that because I do love the animals. So faux fur, colored faux fur.

Q:

What's your favorite New York City neighborhood?

A:

I like the West Village. I don't live in the West Village; I live in Midtown, but I think I'm going to migrate down there with the kids eventually. I'm by the UN now, and I think I need a little change.

Q:

Do you have a favorite Instagram filer?

A:

Valencia! I don't let anyone touch my timeline but my assistant, who is photo-editing crazy. Valencia seems to be his favorite.

Q:

What's the last thing you bought yourself?

A:

New underwear! You know, it's the time of season where you kind of change them over. I'm always shopping, so it's unfair.

Q:

What do you collect?

A:

I collect Hermès bracelets because I know my daughter will love them.

Q:

Speaking of daughters, how do you feel about how private Kim Kardashian is being about North?

A:

For her, I think it's huge because she's so public, so it's like total reversal. Whereas with the royal family, it's a different kind of sharing, more like the president and the first lady. I'm happy that Kim is taking this time-out. It will emotionally bond her, evolve her, and prepare her to get back out there, so I think it's important for her.

Q:

Should she have just shown the baby like the royal family did?

A:

Hey, I wouldn't have minded that at all! I think there are two ways you can do it: Here's my baby, celebrate with us, we're excited about it, or we can seclude ourselves from it, gather ourselves, and then come out and share. Everyone has their own plan as per their lifestyle. Me? I'm about sharing. You can control it, when you put the photos out there. When you do it your way, you can control it, like Bey and Jay did with Blue.
