Robin Roberts is a DVF 2013 Honoree

The 2013 DVF Honorees in! Designer Diane von Furstenberg announced the recipients today: inspirational women who demonstrated leadership, strength, and courage in their respective fields. Good Morning America co-anchor, Robin Roberts will be given the Lifetime Leadership award for dedicating her life and body of work to the advantage of women.

“Robin Roberts has shown extraordinary grace and courage in her ability to overcome breast cancer and myelodysplastic syndrome (a rare blood disorder),” the press release stated. “Her bravery and transparency have drawn more attention to these causes with the hope of also saving lives.”

Past honorees have included Oprah Winfrey in 2012 and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, in 2011–company that Roberts doesn’t take lightly. “It is humbling to be recognized by someone who I have long admired, Diane von Furstenberg,” Roberts said when she received her award .

Supermodel Natalia Vodianova will receive the Inspiration Award for recognition for her philanthropic work as the founder and president of the Naked Heart foundation, striving to provide a safe and inspiring environment for every child living in Russia. Talila Leman from RandomKid; Tammy Tibbetts from She’s the First; Colonel Kim Olson from Grace After Fire; and Tina Frundt from Courtney’s House are the recipients of the People’s Voice Award, chosen by popular vote from the public. Andeisha Farid, founder and excuetive director of Afghan Child Education, and Sunitha Krishnan, co-founder of Prajwala, will be honored with the Vital Voices Global Partnership.

Furstenburg created the awards in 2010, inspired by her mother, a Holocaust survivor who told her fear is not an option. The honorees will be presented their awards April 5th at the United Nations. They also will receive a $50, 000 grant in support of the organization that they are affiliated with. Congrats to all of the ladies for their hard work and dedication!
