On Wednesday, June 9, Elisabeth Hasselbeck halted her vacation, phoned into Fox News’ Fox & Friends, and slammed her former The View co-host Rosie O’Donnell. Today, sources at the ABC roundtable confirm that O’Donnell will be reclaiming her seat on the debate-filled show.
O’Donnell, who worked on The View with Hasselbeck, Barbara Walters, and Joy Behar from 2006 to 2007, will be returning for Season 18 of the daytime hit. She will join Whoopi Goldberg, who is the series’ last woman
standing sitting; Walters retired earlier this year, while Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy announced their departures at the end of June.
While The View shared its excitement over O’Donnell’s comeback on Twitter, Hasselbeck had little good to say.
“Here comes to The View the very woman who spit in the face of our military, spit in the face of her own network, and really in the face of a person who stood by her and had civilized debates for the time that she was there, coming back with a bunch of control ready to regain a seat at The View table,” Hasselbeck said. She later added, “I think this has been in the works for a long time,” alluding to reports that O’Donnell produced Walters’ retirement show.
If you remember, the conservative Hasselbeck and progressive O’Donnell shared several heated debates on The View, the most memorable being their May 2007 bout over the war in Iraq. See below, and click play. It’s worth the trip down memory lane.
The View will return for Season 18 on ABC this fall.
