Out of all the summer braiding style to choose from, the fishtail remains supreme. The problem is figuring out how to get those plaits just right. We’ve got you covered with a easy way to snag the coveted coif for yourself.
Prime the hair with a spritz or two of a texturizing spray like Alterna’s Bamboo Beach Summer Ocean Waves or a dry shampoo like Drybar’s Detox Dry Shampoo at the roots to provide texture prior to braiding. Pull the hair back at whatever angle you choose with a tie it off with a clear hair elastic before splitting the tail into two sections.
Take a small piece of one section, preferably from the back, and wrap it around the other large section and do the same on the opposite side to make an X between the two sections.
Repeat the same steps on the other side, going back and forth down the length of your ponytail. Tie the end off with a regular hair elastic. For added festival-like flair, pull the braid from both sides after tying off the end to loosen to your liking.
Pull a section of the clear elastic away from the braid to avoid any hair and cut it to remove. Finish up the look with an added blast of the texturizing spray or a light hairspray like L’Oreal Elnett Strong Hold Hairspray for hold throughout.
