Gladiators, get suited up! Tonight, the third season of Shonda Rhimes’ political soap Scandal returns to ABC, and the cast reveals once and for all who they’re rooting for in the Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) love triangle. [Vulture]

Academy Award-winning actor Forest Whitaker is getting a nod from New York City. The Lee Daniels’ The Butler star is being honored at this year’s Gotham Independent Film Awards with the Actor Tribute award for “breaking boundaries and challenging audiences with complex, multifaceted roles… as a producer, director and humanitarian,” according to Independent Filmmaker Project exec Joana Vicente. Though her seventh CD was released about a year ago, Rihanna still has reason to “Pour It Up.” The Bajan rebel released the highly-anticipated (and NSFW) video to the twerk-friendly track yesterday, rocking plenty of vintage Chanel… and not much else. [E! Online]

You go girl! Casey Wilson and her writing partner June Diane Raphael have landed a half-hour sitcom on NBC tentatively titled The Mason Twins. This makes for the pair’s second hit of the season; they got the green light for an ABC pilot Double Income, No Kids in September. [Vulture]

If you’re tuned in to pop culture, then Miley Cyrus and her foam finger are no distant memory. The “Wrecking Ball” singer will be talking to the Today show’s Matt Lauer about that—among other things—on October 7 for her first live interview since her controversial bow at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards. Now, for the renewal rundown: MTV has renewed The Challenge for a 25th season, USA has ok’d Covert Affairs for a fifth, and fans of Sleepy Hollow will be seeing a second season on Fox next year. [The Wrap, Deadline, The Hollywood Reporter]
