• Tip 1: White sneakers are far from a French fashion faux pas. Paired with form-fitting jeans, a muted or dark turtleneck, and an elegant coat, they are a staple in the wardrobes of many Parisian women, and they make trekking from place to place not just bearable but also enjoyable. Inspiration (left): Camel coat, black turtleneck, stylishly torn jeans, and white tennies.

  • Tip 2: Although black generally receives the majority of hype as a "classic, très French" color, burgundy is actually quite popular among Parisiennes as well. Many Parisian women don coats in this lovely hue in order to complete their dark, wintry looks. Inspiration (left): Bordeaux fuzzy wool by Elizabeth Suzann.

  • Tip 3: Bring a (black) blazer. They pair fabulously with fitted, dark-wash jeans or comfortable, elegant black pants. They transform even the most casual of outfits into professional, classy, and fashionable looks. • Tip 4: Classic, cute coats are SO very important. A sophisticated but slightly unique coat is a must for all Parisiennes. Each woman's coat has subtle details that make it all her own but don't awkwardly differentiate her within crowds. Inspiration (left): Scallop detail on a coat by Kate Spade.

  • Tip 5: The black shirt. A simple, tasteful black T-shirt or top to wear beneath a sweater, blazer, or coat is an absolute must in Paris. This comfortable one by Steven Alan is an excellent example of what many Parisiennes choose to don beneath their layers.

  • Tip 6: Classic, form-fitting jeans are essential for life in Paris. Dress them up ever so slightly with black ankle boots and a chic top to pull them off in style. Example (left): Pilcro Serif skinny jeans via Anthropologie.

  • Tip 7: Accessorize properly and tastefully. Scarves, hats, and gloves in neutral hues serve two purposes: 1) keeping you warm from the chills in the air, and 2) adding a little extra something to your smart look. A pop of color every now and then is perfectly acceptable, as are muted patterns. As far as jewelry goes, be sure to keep it simple and elegant at all times. Example (left): via Polyvore.
