Style Counsel: What to Wear to a Movie Premiere

By  October 10, 2011

Tomorrow night we’re headed to the New York Film Festival to catch the premiere of Martha Marcy May Marlene. And though these sorts of engagements are part of our job, this time we’ll be celebrating with our close friend Alex Schepsman, who is one of the film’s executive producers, so forgive us for being extra excited. Many of our neighbors will be attending and have been asking for outfit suggestions, so we figured we’d offer our advice on what non-red carpet walking guests should wear to catch a major screening. Such an occasion warrants an outfit that is both festive and polished. Even if the paparazzi won’t be taking your picture, you won’t want to embarrass any loved ones who may be part of the cast or crew.

Here is a foolproof and fashionable film festival look for the under 40 set (Sorry mom–this ensemble isn’t for you, but your sequined cardigan and black trousers are perfect):

1. H&M Blazer, $49.95
2. J. Crew Martha Bracelet, $95
3. Stella & Dot Garbo Link Bracelet, $79
4. Reiss Hero Sequin Trousers in Dark Gold, $330
5. Bandolino JustBecuz Booties, $89
6. Adam Silk-georgette Tank, $180
7. Donna Karan Crocodile Classic Clutch, $3,359
