Style Scoop: Kelly Cutrone Says Consumers Push Thin Trends, A Look at Tamara Mellon’s Threads, A Second Run for Keds and Kate Spade

Kelly Cutrone hosted a conference call earlier this week to promote the 20th cycle of America’s Next Top Model, which will feature men for the first time ever. Among offering blunt advice for aspiring models (“If you’re 5’6″, just stay home”) she took a controversial stance on body image and the fashion industry. “Society has a hyper emphasis on thin and that trend comes from the consumers—it does not come from the fashion industry,” she said. Cutrone later added that “You look at the Dove campaign in Times Square, it sticks out like a sore thumb—those girls in the white T-shirts and underwear, next to Calvin Klein. As a consumer, it doesn’t make me want to buy Dove. I’m all for the real look, but as a consumer it doesn’t make me want to buy clothes.”  [The Fashion Spot]

Enough talk about Tamara Mellon‘s shoes—we want to get inside her closet. Vogue took us through Mellon’s armoire, replete with 31 black jumpsuits, an array of aviators, and a vintage fur coat collection that puts our bombers to shame. Kolor up you Keds with Kate Spade (you thought the Kardashians were the only ones who could K their way around?). The classic canvas is getting its second, sunny dose of the NY brand this fall. “We’ve gone even more graphic this season, with bold prints featured on our most feminine silhouette, the Champion Rally, giving a lot of style on a slender sneaker,” said Keds president Rick Blackshaw. It’s going to be a merry Magna Carta holiday. Jay Z (no hyphen, kids) is going from Barclays to Barneys, reportedly landing a collaboration with the luxury retailer for the most wonderful time of the year. Move over Cara Delevingne, and make way for DSquared2′s new muse. Jasmine Tookes has taken over as the face of the brand with a Mean Girl Diary video featuring wears from Pre-Fall 2013. In the clip, Tookes opens a burn book that slams past DSquared2 dames and makes a snarly call to Delevingne that flashes back to her Resort 2013 ad.  [Grazia Daily]

Being booted from DSquared2 hasn’t slowed down Delevingne though. She worked with Mert AlasMarcus Piggott, and Minnie Mouse in a tribute to the Disney icon for LOVE magazine. The photography pair brought Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Georgia May JaggerChiharu Okunugi, and Edie Campbell along for the ride.
