By  September 18, 2012

Patrice Grell Yursik, or as she’s better known on the Internet, Afrobella, launched her website in August of 2006 to focus on the beauty of all women – from natural hair to the rainbow of skin colors in this world. Since then, she’s grown her brand into a well known and go-to source while contributing to Essence, Newsweek.com, xoJane.com and Ebony.com, and Italian Vogue’s Vogue Black. Additionally, she earned a role on Ebony Magazine’s Power 100 list and designed her very own shade of MAC lipglass. Talk about beauty, brains, and creative talent.

What 5 products are always in your makeup case during Fashion Week? –

I love traveling with a palette, so I always take a few! My latest favorites are the Too Faced Smokey Eye palette and Urban Decay’s Naked 2. I need to have a good primer for my eye makeup and face – Salma Hayek’s Nuance line for CVS includes a great makeup primer with SPF20. I absolutely need a good black eyeliner and mascara, Mally Beauty makes great eyeliners and mascaras, and I also love Tarte. I also need my foundation – the latest favorite is Fashion Fair True Finish, and I’m joyful caramel. So appropriate!

Where do you get beautified? Nails? Waxing? Massages? –

I used to write a spa review blog for my old newspaper job in Miami, and a variety of awful experiences led me to never want to wax again. I do get my brows threaded or waxed, but that’s about it. I am addicted to no chip manicures and I adore a good pedicure. I’m big into facials, massages, body scrubs, and unique spa treatments. I believe everyone deserves a spa day and needs one every so often!

What is the first beauty treatment you’ll enjoy post Fashion Week?

After Fashion Week I really need a good massage to get all the tension out of my neck, shoulders and back. I also would really love to try foot reflexology – my feet are always so beat up after New York Fashion Week!

Please explain your nightly beauty regimen after a full day of shows and makeup.

After wearing heavy makeup and the primers needed to make a look last through a whole day of shows, I need to cleanse my face thoroughly and prepare for a new day. I live for Mario Badescu cleansers, especially the enzyme cleanser. Lately I’ve been loving ROC’s Daily Microdermabrasion Cleansing Disks. They’re great for travel and when I’m too lazy or tired to use my Clarisonic, they make my face feel thoroughly cleansed. I usually need to make sure my eye makeup has been completely removed, using Q-Tips (the Precision Tips are my favorite) and eye makeup remover, I like Shu Uemura or Bobbi Brown Cleansing Oil, or Estee Lauder’s gentle eye makeup remover. Then I use a deep, penetrating moisturizer or serum. I adore Kiehl’s Rosa Arctica, Estee Lauder’s advanced night repair, and always go back to those two favorites.
