Rebecca Taylor is opening up her life and design process just as she’s gearing up to show her Spring 2013 collection at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. The NYFW vet recently launched her own blog, La Vie RT, where she gives fashionistas and fans an inside look her life and some of her inspirations and interests. Glam got the inside scoop from the designer herself on adding her sartorially savvy spin to social media, her fall favorites, and more.
You just launched your blog, La Vie RT, to accompany your Twitter and Instagram, etc. Why do you feel it was important to go social?
I think social media has established itself as a viable and relevant platform for communicating ideas and simply “speaking” to our customer in a fun way! Our new blog is a great way to express ideas, interests, likes, inspirations etc. We want to be engaged in the lives of our clients and social media allows us to do that. It allows us to send our message in a way that can be digested at the leisure of our fans.
Will fashionistas get behind the scenes looks at what’s coming up for SS 2013 on the blog?
What is the chicest place to be in New York City?
There are so many new chic places..but I still love Waverly Inn.
You describe your line as being a lifestyle: feminine, bold, sexy, kittenish. What is your design process is like?
Very organic. I always keep in mind my customer’s needs and desires! But it’s important to keep challenging them on what they think they can wear.
Who’s inspiring you now?
How do you handle the pressure as you count down the days until New York Fashion Week?
Lots of wine, cupcakes and good music in the office.
How will you celebrate once your models walk the runway?
With friends and family and lots of champagne!
What trends for Fall are you excited to see and which do you think may be more difficult to pull off?
I am excited for the oversized outerwear trend; I love menswear type coats! I know there is also a strong focus on the waist for fall, with peplums, panniers and padding on the hip area. Although I love the sophistication vibe of this trend, I do think it can be tricky and difficult for some people to pull off.
What’s your must-have accessory for fall?
Shearling boots from our Fall 2012 Collection
If you weren’t a fashion designer, what else would you be doing?
A make-up artist if my hands weren’t so shaky.
