Style Setters: Content Creators and Image Makers, Samantha Yanks

Style Setter Samantha Yanks has been a Glam favorite for quite some time. As editor-in-chief of Gotham and Hamptons, Yanks is always in the know. She has recently expanded her sphere of NYC influence with a new segment on WNBC’s Weekend Today called “The Scoop with Samantha,” which airs on Sunday mornings. As loyal followers of Yanks’ “#superluxe” social updates, we rely on her to keep us chicly informed.

Tell us about your first fashion week experience ever.

My first experience with Fashion Week was certainly not attending a show, it was orchestrating the Vogue team’s tickets and the editors whereabouts.  It made me extremely organized, I will tell you that. The first time I really sat at shows was toward the end of my tenure at Vogue and while I was the senior accessories editor at O, The Oprah Magazine.  It wasn’t until I became the Fashion Director at Niche Media and now the editor-in-chief of Gotham and Hamptons Magazines that I started sitting front row. As they say, don’t look back!

When you’re sitting at a show, what inspires you to tweet?

I Tweet what I find truly special through my #superluxe lens. That doesn’t happen at every show. If it’s spectacular or different I’ll tweet it. My feed isn’t about every experience I have. It’s about the best ones.

Where will you be wining and dining this season?

John Delucie‘s new spot Bill’s on 54th, Lil Charlie’s from Artan Gjoni who created subMercer back in the day and the recently opened Ainsworth Park.  They’re all brand new on the scene or in previews which adds another level to why Fashion Week is so fabulous.

What was your first job in the fashion industry?

My first proper job after years of internships was at Vogue magazine.  I was the assistant accessories editor and I handled all of the smaller markets such as hosiery, sunglasses and hats.  I put in my time there and became American Vogue’s first fine jewelry and timepiece editor.  I adored that role but honestly I now have the best job ever.  I cover the life and culture of New York and the Hamptons.  It doesn’t get better than that.
