Taylor Swift knows a lot about love. The “22” singer has had her fair share of heartaches and heartbreaks and chronicled them in hit songs like “Teardrops on My Guitar,” “Love Story, “You Belong with Me,” and “Mean.” But that doesn’t mean Swift is an expert on the subject matter.

“Early on, my ideas about love came from a daydreamy prince-and-princess place,” she told InStyle magazine. “But when I actually experienced it, I realized it wasn’t those things. It can be—but not always.”

“I think you can love people without it being the great love,” Swift started. “Ed [Sheeran] said something that really resonated with me. He says there are different kinds of love: There’s physical attraction, mental attraction, and emotional attraction; there’s also comfort and obsession. You need to have all of those things in one person. You have to mentally respect them, be physically attracted, and have a comfort level. You’re obsessed with them, yet you also know they’re going to stay. I’ve never had that in one person.”

The 23-year-old cover girl, clad in a Burberry Prosum light green sweater, emerald skirt, and coordinating green baubles, will most definitely chronicle her great love–when she finds it–in song. But for now, pick up the November issue of InStyle magazine when it hits newsstands!
