Now that the semi-finalists in the running for LVMH’s inaugural Young Fashion Designer Prize have been announced, it’s time for the contestants to show their creations to the designer-stacked jury. But not without a cocktail party.
“It’s exciting to see all these young talents here today celebrating fashion and creativity from all over the world,” Delphine Arnault told Women’s Wear Daily.
“There are two girls and a boy who I think are the best, but I’m not allowed to say that,” jury member Karl Lagerfeld told WWD. “I started in life like this with a contest (fun fact, he lost to Yves Saint Laurent in the International Wool Secretariat’s dress category), and I think this contest is very interesting. But they are already in business, it’s very different, we were beginners who made sketches.”
The 30 semi-finalists flew to Paris for two days to meet with the 40 jurors who will vote for their favorite within the week. From there, a list of ten will be created before a single winner will be selected in May. The grand prizewinner will receive a grant of $409,750—and we can’t wait to see if it was one of Lagerfeld’s favorites!
