This Year’s Met Gala Calls for “White Tie and Decorations”

Perhaps in an effort to make this year’s Met Gala’s attire easier to navigate—last year’s Punk theme didn’t translate so well—the invitation stipulates a “White Tie and Decorations” dress code according to Women’s Wear Daily.

That means that gentlemen planning to attend the May 5th gala celebrating the opening of Charles James: Beyond Fashion exhibit should expect to don full evening dress: a black tailcoat, waistcoat, a wing collar shirt and a white bow tie.

As for the decorations bit, WWD speculates that they could come in the “the shape of lapel pins, from bronze stars to awards and more creative flights of fancy.”

The first person that comes to mind is Kanye West whom we assume will be invited after all of the press he and his fiancé Kim Kardashian drummed up the last time they attended the dinner. Oh, and then there’s the fact that Anna Wintour seems to have given the couple her blessing—and a Vogue cover.

We can’t wait to see how the Yeezus rapper interprets “White Tie and Decorations.”
