Charlize Theron was born just outside of Benoni, South Africa. She later moved to Europe and then the United States to pursue dancing. She got a job at the Joffrey Ballet in New York, but a knee injury put an early end to her dancing career. In 2003, after several roles in B movies, Theron transformed herself for the criticially acclaimed film Monster about a serial murderer. She won the Oscar for her portrayal. Theron was nominated for an Oscar again in 2005 for her role as Josey Aimes in Northy Country. Theron has been in a long-term relationship with Stuart Townsend.
