140502_Jackson Justin DuetRihanna and her bantu knots may have won big at last night’s iHeartRadio Music Awards, but it was the debut of Michael Jackson’s new single, featuring Justin Timberlake and fueled by a performance from Usher, that stole the stage.

The Voice coach made a surprise appearance at the Los Angeles ceremony and danced to a snippet of “Love Never Felt So Good,” the lead single from Jackson’s posthumous album Xscape, out May 13th. Though the song is one of eight to appear on the 2014 project, it was co-written by the King of Pop, Paul Anka, and Kathy Wakefield more than 20 years ago in 1983. Loyal followers of Jackson know that Anka is also responsible for co-writing “I Never Heard” in 1983, which was later released as “This Is It” for the icon’s 2009 documentary of the same name.

“Michael left behind some musical performances that we take great pride in presenting through the vision of music producers that he either worked directly with or expressed strong desire to work with,” Epic Records CEO and Xscape executive producer L.A. Reid said in a statement back in March. “We are extremely proud and honored to present this music to the world.”

Though Timberlake, who is featured on “Love Never Felt So Good,” wasn’t present at the iHeartRadio Awards for the tune’s turn at center stage, he shared his excitement about the project via Instagram…twice.
