Valentino-Fall-2014

DESIGNER:  Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli

INSPIRATION: Whimsical romance with a sense of humor.

TRENDS: The collection was split into two aesthetics, the first with a more casual, retro ’60s flair and the second a series of black tie type of dresses in the usual Valentino fashion. Sleek pieces with bold circles, stripes and tile prints made up the first part with styles including crisp collared shifts and blouses, long and short capes, and patterned trench coats. A particular dress silhouette with a boat neckline, draped sleeves, and cinched waists, offered in both lace and monochromatic wool options, was also a reoccurring look. The dressier part of the collection featured devastatingly dramatic and gorgeous gowns carefully constructed of floral applique, butterfly embellishments, lace, sheer, and chiffon. Long sleeves, high necklines, and floor length hems was the style to envy.

PALETTE: Fire brick, red, black, salmon pink, brown, olive drab, navy, purple.

WHO WAS THERE: Grace Coddington, Anna Wintour (in the second row!), Olivia Palermo and Johannes Huebl, Miroslava Duma, Anna dello Russo.

WHO SHOULD WEAR IT: Red carpet regulars who love feminine high fashion and Valentino’s eye for romance, elegance, and whimsical style. Kate Bosworth, Adele, Lily Collins, Katy Perry, Nicole Richie, Zoe Saldana.
