Vampire Weekend Rocks the Roseland Ballroom for American Express Unstaged

By  April 29, 2013

On the closing night of the Tribeca Film Festival, audiences stepped out of the movie theaters to head up to Roseland Ballroom where Vampire Weekend kicked off the fourth year of American Express Unstaged directed by Boardwalk Empire’s Steve Buscemi.

The sold-out show was open exclusively to American Express cardmembers who packed the famous venue after lining up for hours in hopes of making the front row. Those who couldn’t snag a ticket weren’t left out in the cold though, as they were able to livestream the show in partnership with YouTube and Vevo on AmexUnstaged.com.

Portlandia’s Fred Armisen warmed up the crowd where we spotted an audience member reading a book minutes before the band took to the stage. The group blasted fan-favorites like, “Holiday,” “Oxford Comma,” and “Horchata” before playing a few selections from their upcoming album, Modern Vampires of the City. Flashes from cameras and iPhones lit up the venue as Buscemi jumped on stage with the boys to sing a few bars from “A-Punk” before taking a moment to thank the audience for coming for the special performance before the band kicked into “Ya Hey.”

Buscemi wasn’t the only star in attendance as Zach Galifianakis, Seth Herzog, and Jonah Hill filled the VIP balcony. Even Jude Law came out to support the group and brought along his new girlfriend, Ruth Wilson.

After playing a few oldies but goodies like “Diplomat’s Son,” “Giving Up the Gun,” and “Campus” before saying goodnight with “Walcott” from their debut album. Talk about a great start to the week ahead!
