Following the void that Suzy Menkes, Cathy Horyn and Eric Wilson created when they left The New York Times, the paper tapped Vanessa Friedman to be the new fashion director and chief fashion critic.

“I’m thrilled to welcome Vanessa to the Times,” Jill Abramson, executive editor of The New York Times told Women’s Wear Daily. “She is the perfect journalist to be our leading voice on global fashion.”

Friedman is currently a fashion editor at the Financial Times and will start her position next month, heading up the global fashion coverage for both The New York Times and The International New York Times, WWD reports.

Before becoming joining the Financial Times as a fashion editor, she was the fashion and features director at British InStyle and a contributor to The Economist, The New Yorker, Vogue and Entertainment Weekly.

Cheers to her!
