Vivienne Westwood Takes Her Talents to Virgin Atlantic

By  May 02, 2013

Vivienne Westwood is teaming up with Richard Branson to upgrade the uniforms for his airline, Virgin Atlantic. The uniforms won’t look like the couture costumes on Westwood’s runway, but they will maintain the whimsical element that the designer brings to all of her pieces. Once launched next year, 7,500 of Virgin Atlantic airline’s employees will wear Westwood’s work.

“Virgin Atlantic has a distinct spirit and, from a design perspective, we continually try to challenge the norm and stand out from the crowd,” Branson told Women’s Wear Daily.

The female cabin crew will wear a red suit that is nipped at the waist and curved at the hip with strategically placed bust pleats, WWD is reporting. The males will wear burgundy three-piece suits with gray shadow-like details under the lapels and pockets. Both uniforms will be made using sustainable materials created with Closed Loop Recycling–many that come from recycled polyester from plastic bottles.

Go Vivienne! We can’t wait to see the final product, or what the designer will wear to the Met Ball on Monday, she’s one person we can expect to fully embrace punk.
