Walk for the Cause, Walk for Romance

Valentine’s Day tends to make singles think about out of the box ways to meet new people.  Have you ever thought that a cause-related event could help you meet that special someone? The Avon Walk for Breast Cancer worked for these happy couples. In 2012, there are nine Walks happening a crossed the US (Houston, DC, Boston, Chicago, Rocky Mountains, San Francisco, Santa Barbara, New York, Charlotte) and Glam.com readers will receive a special discount code— just enter “WALK2,” when registering for $10 off. Happy Valentine’s Day!

Mike Mcelduff & Terry Wallace- Couple Met at the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer Charlotte
Here are Terry’s words:
In October, 2009 I was 60 and walked in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer Charlotte, NC, honoring my sister, coworker and best friend. At the Wellness Village I lost my cell phone. An Avon Walk crew member offered to help me…it was Mike (we never found the phone). At the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer Charlotte 2010, Mike and I ended up being a part of the Avon Walk crew staff and remembered the lost phone. Sparks started! After the Closing Ceremony, Mike asked me out to dinner. We began visiting regularly and then become engaged!  We participated in five Avon Walks in 2011. In 2012, our goal is to participate in all nine Avon Walk for Breast Cancer!

Gerik & Theresa Goncalves- Got engaged at the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer New York
Here are Gerik’s words:
I decided to propose on stage during the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer New York’s Saturday night event. With the help of the Avon Walk crew, I was on stage in a game where you need to finish the lyrics. I had Bruce Springsteen’s song “I Wanna Marry You.”  “Little girl….,” I forgot what I needed to say “I want to marry you.”  I called Theresa on stage and on one knee said “Theresa Marie Brennan, will you marry me?”  She never said “yes,” but rather “of course.”  The proposal was captured on tape- http://weddinggt.com/photos. This year, we are signed up to walk in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer DC.

James & Rebecca Hammond- Couple Met at an Avon Walk for Breast Cancer Santa Barbara
Here are James’ words:
We were on separate Avon Walk teams in 2005.  We didn’t know one another but kept bumping into each other on the route… so we got to talking and didn’t stop until we said goodnight under the stars. After the Walk I offered to give Rebecca a ride home and we exchanged emails to share photos taken during the weekend. Five months after later, I moved in with Rebecca and her 5-year-old daughter, Tayla, and cat, Squishee. Nine months from the day we met, I proposed. We continue to participate in walks and signed up for their 8th Avon Walk, the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer Santa Barbara 2012. Join us!
