Calvin Klein, connoisseur of contests (remember their male undies model competition?), is once again putting the creative reigns in the hands of its fans. The brand has partnered with the Swatch group and three of the world’s top design schools, The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York City, Istituto Europeo di Design (IED) in Milan, and Donghua University in Shanghai, to find the next leading talent in accessory design.”The contest gives students real-world experience and potential global exposure for their proposed designs, while the brand gains insight into the fresh visions of emerging design talents from three respected design schools spanning three continents,” the company announced at Baselworld 2014.
Students who submit their work to the contest must create a watch and jewelry design that reflects the Calvin Klein brand, with their own unique spin, of course. According to Women’s Wear Daily, “Submissions will be evaluated on their creative use of materials, details and packaging, as well as ease of use and functionality.” The final styles will be judged by Laura Burdese, president of Calvin Klein Watches and Jewelry, Ulrich Grimm, the brand’s creative director of shoes and accessories, The Blonde Salad‘s Chiara Ferragni, model/blogger Hanneli Mustaparta, and Nicole Warne of Gary Pepper.
