Would You Pre-Shampoo Before You Shampoo?

By  January 11, 2011

Let’s get one thing straight—when it comes to our hair, we tend to lean towards the side of lazy. Sure, we’ll lather up a couple of times and condition once, but blow-drying? Fuggedaboutit. Air-dried hair will do just fine, thank you very much. The thought of adding another step to our down pat, 5-minutes-flat routine is beyond daunting to us, but we’re guessing our tress-obsessed readers (you!) are up for it.

If indeed you are, look for the phrase ‘avant shampooing’ on the packaging. It directly translates to ‘before shampooing’, which basically means it’s a pre-shampoo oil treatment that moisturizes and deep conditions your mane before you cleanse.

If your hair is in dire need of moisture, pre-shampoo once or twice a week. Or if you’re planning on taking a dip in the pool, or sunning yourself all day, generously apply to dry strands beforehand, and shampoo later! We’ve heard rave reviews about these two:
